How is the gold price calculated? To estimate a gold jewellery price, multiply the rate for your chosen purity by the net gold weight, add making charges, then multiply the subtotal by 1.03. Enter a quote per gram, 10 grams or kilogram below. All rates come from you; this is not a live price feed.

CALCULATOR AT A GLANCE

What you can calculate here

Enter a quoted gold rate, choose whether it is for 1 gram, 10 grams or 1 kilogram, then select the purity and net weight of the item you are considering. Add making charges as a flat amount, per gram or percentage of metal value.

1. Convert the rateQuoted price ÷ quoted grams, adjusted for selected purity.
2. Add craftsmanshipMetal value plus your selected making charge.
3. Add 3% GSTGST is applied to the subtotal for this jewellery estimate.

YOUR NUMBERS, MADE SIMPLE

Build your gold estimate

01 Start with the quoted rate

Use a metal price before making charges and GST.

02 Tell us about the piece

Use net gold weight. Leave out stones, packaging and other materials.

Converting 24K to 22K by purity ratio. A direct seller quote may differ.

03 Include the craftsmanship

Enter 0 if there is no making charge. GST is fixed at 3% for this estimate.

THE CALCULATION

From a quoted rate to a clear total.

Start with a price for the same purity as the piece you are buying. If you have a quote for a different purity, the tool uses a proportion to estimate the selected grade. When the quote and selected purity match, no purity adjustment is made.

  1. 01

    Find the per-gram rate

Quoted price ÷ quoted grams × selected purity ÷ quoted purity.

For gold, purity is the karat number, such as 22 or 24.
  2. 02

    Add the making charges

Metal value = rate per gram × net weight. Add a flat charge, a per-gram charge, or a percentage of metal value.

  3. 03

    Include the GST

Estimated total = (metal value + making charges) × 1.03.

For the closest estimate, use the seller's direct quote for your chosen purity. Proportional conversions cannot account for different retail premiums.

ILLUSTRATION · NOT A LIVE RATE

A 10 g wedding jewellery estimate

Suppose your jeweller quotes ₹1,00,000 per 10 g for 22K gold, with 8% making charges. For a 10 g piece, the estimate is:

Metal value
₹1,00,000
Making charges
₹8,000
GST at 3%
₹3,240
Estimated total
₹1,11,240

Use “Try a sample” in the calculator to explore these figures, then replace them with your own quote.

UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE BUYING

A quick guide to gold purity.

24K

Check the exact fineness

24K is the top of the karat scale. For a coin or bar, read the stated fineness on the product and invoice; a broad “24K” quote does not describe every product specification.

22K

Understand the 916 mark

BIS identifies 22K gold jewellery with 916 fineness. Enter a jeweller’s 22K quote directly for the closest comparison, especially when comparing wedding designs.

18K

Keep stones separate

18K corresponds to 750 fineness. If a ring or pendant contains stones, use its net gold weight. This calculator does not value diamonds, gemstones or settings separately.

The tool also supports 14K, 20K and 23K. Cross-purity estimates use the selected karat ÷ quoted karat, not an assay of the jewellery. Actual retail rates and exact fineness can differ.

3%GST

READ THE WHOLE BILL

Making charges count, too.

CBIC's jewellery FAQ applies 3% GST to the total retail jewellery value, including making charges. That is the method used here. Separate job-work services are outside this calculator.

Ask for a quote before GST. If the rate already includes tax or making charges, entering it as a basic metal rate will count those amounts again.

FOR CELEBRATIONS BIG & SMALL

Plan the purchase. Keep the joy.

Wedding and festival purchases often carry a story as well as a price. A few minutes with the numbers can make that family conversation easier.

WEDDING SHOPPING

Compare the whole piece

Before visiting a showroom, decide what you want to spend on the finished piece. A necklace and a pair of bangles may have similar gold weight but very different making charges. Save each item’s weight, purity and final quote so the family can compare like with like.

DHANTERAS & DIWALI

A small gift, thoughtfully chosen

For a coin or a lighter piece of jewellery, try 1 g, 5 g and 10 g with the seller’s rate. Ask whether the coin premium, gift box and GST are already included in the advertised price. Enter a price before GST here so tax is not added twice.

AKSHAYA TRITIYA

Read the offer beyond the headline

If a promotion reduces making charges, change that field and compare the final total. Also check the metal rate and net weight. A meaningful date can guide when you celebrate; it cannot guarantee a lower market price or future return.

TAKE THIS TO THE STORE

Six checks before you say yes.

Match the quote to the piece

Write down the rate, its unit and purity. A price per 10 g is ten times a price per gram.

Use net gold weight

Ask the seller to separate stones, beads and other non-gold components from the metal weight.

Verify the hallmark

For hallmarked gold jewellery, check the BIS mark, purity and HUID. Use BIS Care to verify the HUID details.

Ask how making charges work

Confirm whether they are a flat amount, per gram, or a percentage, and which amount that percentage applies to.

Read the itemised bill

Check net metal weight, purity and charges. Ask about wastage, stones or other fees that this calculator does not include.

Keep the purchase terms

Ask about exchange deductions, repairs and buyback terms. A purchase estimate is not a resale or old-gold exchange valuation.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Gold calculator FAQs

How do I calculate the price of 22K gold jewellery?

Use the jeweller’s 22K rate per gram, multiply it by the net gold weight, add making charges and then add 3% GST to that subtotal. If you only have a 24K quote, the calculator can estimate 22K using 22/24. A direct 22K retail quote is more specific.

Does this calculator show today’s live gold price?

No. You enter the rate yourself. Prices vary by seller, city, purity and time, so check the quote on the day you buy. The sample is only an illustration.

What is the difference between 18K, 22K and 24K?

Karat describes the proportion of gold in an alloy on a 24-part scale. BIS lists 18K jewellery as 750 fineness and 22K as 916. Check the exact fineness of a 24K product with the seller. The calculator uses a simple karat ratio for estimates.

Is GST calculated on the gold value or the full jewellery bill?

For the retail jewellery estimate here, 3% GST is applied to the metal value plus making charges, following CBIC’s jewellery FAQ. Separate job-work services are outside this tool’s scope.

What if the jeweller has already quoted a GST-inclusive price?

Do not enter that full price as a pre-tax metal rate. Ask for the metal rate and making charges before GST. Entering an inclusive price would add tax again and overstate the estimate.

Can I calculate 1 gram, 10 grams and 1 kg of gold?

Yes. Choose a quick weight or enter any positive weight in grams. One kilogram is 1,000 grams. The comparison table shows all three weights across the available purities.

How can I compare a festive making-charge offer?

Keep weight, purity and the metal rate the same, then change only the making charge. Compare the final total including GST. If another seller uses a different rate or weight, update those fields too.

Can I use this for selling old jewellery?

This tool estimates a purchase bill. A jeweller’s resale or exchange offer may depend on testing, deductions, stones and the seller’s buyback policy, so it can be different.

SOURCES & METHODOLOGY

Useful numbers, with clear limits.

This free tool is published on Atul Rana's website for purchase planning. It uses the rate you enter, a proportional purity conversion and the stated making-charge method. It does not fetch live rates, assay jewellery or provide a seller's invoice. Calculations retain precision internally and show currency to two decimal places.
